Pleading for Apology in the Prisons Poetry of Andalus

Abstract

Apology is a statement saying sorry for something that he has been done wrong or that causes a problem. Prison literature refers to poetry and prose penned by poets or writers during their imprisonment to express their feelings and emotions. In such a literature, the author expatiates about the internal circumstances of prison thoroughly. It depicts author reminiscing about their beloved or expressing worries about their family. Apart from that, this literature also portrays author expressing about their innocence in relation to their imprisonment. It exhibits the author giving reasons to prove their innocence, generally known as a plea. Such explanations of innocence are aimed at begging one’s pardon known as apology. This article discusses apologies and plea made by Andalusian poets in their poetry while in prison. The horizons of intellectuality of such poets become evident in their poetry wherein they, along with acquitting themselves from allegation against them, plead for apology to the king or the commander. This literature also presents fashion of critical rhetoric.
