Abstract
Human beings- come across various things - of contentment and annoyance in life. The current study discusses the concept of happiness and annoyance, which are directly related to two basic theories of life that is pessimism and optimism. Pessimism, being a psychological factor, differs from people to people and time to time. Some people may be victims of pessimism because of political and social problems while others may be victims of ailments. So is the case of poets and writers, being interpreters of society, they interpret themselves quite vividly. Amongst the pessimist poets, one is Abul ‘Ala al-Ma’arri. In his poetry pessimism can be found in aburdance. This research focuses on the reasons behind the pessimism of Abul ‘Ala al-Ma’arri and its reflections on his life and theory.
