Abstract

Al Maturidiyyah is not mere a school of theology within Sunni Islam but rather a movement that was originated in its time, which played an effective role against the ideologies propagated by the atheists, the mu’tazilites and the other deviated groups from the main stream Sunni Islam. Al Maturidiyyah is attributed to Abu Mansu Muhammad b. Muhammad b. Mahmud al- Maturidi al-Samarqandi; he was named after Maturid, which is a place near Samarqand in Transoxiana, where he was born. He was a prominent Islamic scholar who pinned down several famous works to preserve the basic beliefs of Islam. He effectively answered the doubts raised by the philosophers (mutakallimun), the mu’tazilites and the Jahamiyyah of his time in their coin on certain faith issues. The current paper presents the introduction, struggles and contributions of Imam Abu Mansur al- Maturidi.
