Abstract
In early 1970s, certain methods of teaching English language were introduced by Western Scholars. With the passage of time, it was renamed as applied linguistics. However, such methods are results of globalization, different wars and clash of civilizations of different nations. The purpose of introducing such methods is to flourish English language Worldwide. Subsequently, in late 1990s, the Arabic language became one of the international languages as directed by United Nations Organization. For Arabic language, said methods were also used in order to promote and publicize Arabic language. In Pakistan the international Islamic university Islamabad (Islamic University) was established in 1985. The official languages of the University are Arabic and English. For promotion of Arabic language, in the beginning, the Arabic Faculty was also introduced. Islamic University used different methods for teaching Arabic language, such as, traditional method, structural method, natural method, direct method, audio-lingual method, communicative method, reading method and reformative method. This work focuses on different methods used in the teaching of Arabic language. It analyses the use of different methods in Arabic language in historical perspective. Further, it discusses the efforts of Islamic University in the teaching of Arabic language by identifying the use of different methods in it. It concludes that Islamic university has played pivotal role in the promotion and proliferation of the use of different methods in teaching Arabic language globally.
