Abstract

It is a time tested fact that a peaceful society needs a stable government, which is acceptable to all holders, but it is obvious that people who will govern most have enough talent to dispose of their duties properly. It is obvious from the Holy Quran and Sunnah that there has not been a specific criteria for the selection of the head of the state. One can find about three ways of this selection, the selection by public, by head of the state or through the members of council. This reveals that Islam possesses the policy regarding the selection of the head of the state in accordance with the demands of time and among them, whatever is suitable and appropriate, may be followed for the prosperity of the masses. In this article, the various types of selection of the head of the state have been discussed in light of the teachings of Islam.
