Abstract
Orientalism is the scholarly knowledge or study of the Eastern (Asian) cultures, civilizations, religions, languages and people (also termed as Oriental Studies). An Orientalist is a specialist or expert in oriental subjects most commonly (but not necessarily) from West. As Islam is a divine and global but historically an Asian religion, therefore, many Orientalists have made it their field of specialization and have written on its different aspects such as its basics beliefs, customs, teachings, jurisprudence especially on Quran and Sunnah and the noble life of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) and his companions etc. Some orientalists have their unique scholarly contributions towards Islamic Studies while others have raised baseless objections and negative propagation against Islam and the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) etc. In response to this, some of the Muslim scholars have also written in defense of Islam and its teachings, answered to the questions and objections of the Orientalists and critically analysed their approaches The article in hand presents an analytical informative study of 111 Urdu academic researches(Theses and Dissertations) of Universities of the Sub-Continent at Doctorate, M.Phil and Master levels which are concerned with Orientalism or Orientalists especially on their critical and analytical studies.
