Abstract

Allama Shamsud Din known as Khateeb Shurbeeni was an eminent scholar of his time. His fame is due to his various books in the field of Islamic studies. His tafseer Siraj-ul-Muneer is a master piece in the era of tafseer. It is a very comprehensive، short and easy to understand. In his book، he followed the top Mufasireen and their books like، Al-Kashaaf of Al-Zimahshari، Tafseer ul Kabeer of Imam Fakhru ddin Al-Razi and Tafseer Al-Baghawi of Allama Baghawi. One of the distinction of Allama Shurbeeni is that he narrates Sahih and Hassan ahadith only in his book and leaves the rest. Likewise، he narrates only the commonly recited Qiraats of the Holy Qura'an and leaves the rest. One of the characteristic of this Tafseer is that the writer explains each and every verse of the Holy Quran، discussing any legal issue of Islamic Jurisprudence. The writer quotes different Imams in jurisprudence، discusses their logics and preferences in details and then decides the preferred one followed by the reasons. He prefers ahadiths and Aasaar over other sources of Islamic jurisprudence. He himself belonged to Shaafi School of thought، and it can be found in his reasons clearly. He also explains the connection between ayat and surahs of the Holy Quran. He also tells the number of ayats in any surah. Sometimes the writer explains the topic of any surah in the beginning of any surah. This article explains the methodology of the writer in the Bismillah، which he explains in a specific way with the connection of some surahs of the Holy Quran.
