Abstract
Islam is a religion which strongly supports freedom of expression as well as peace and stability in the community. The Holy Prophet (PBUH) and his Companions were compelled to migrate from Makkah to Madina in order to protect their freedom of speech and freedom to practice their religion. However, they continued to face restrictions in various shapes even after their migration. It is a fact that if Muslims were not oppressed by their rivals, the wars between them would not have taken place. In many cases, the Holy Prophet (PBUH) took the defensive strategy when attacked by the Quraish. One of these cases is the battle of Uhud which took place in the third year after Hijrah. The Muslims met a grave tragedy in this battle as they suffered the loss of seventy Companions of the Prophet (PBUH). In the main sources of Seerah, all events related with this battle have been recorded thoroughly. Nevertheless, some complexities emerge when sources of these events are consulted. In the current paper, many complexities regarding the battle of Uhud have been addressed via a scholarly analysis and an effort is made to present it in a comprehensible form after elimination of these complexities.
