Abstract

Middle East has always been pivotal in international relations due to its oilrich resources and potential market for the western industrial supplies as well as its influence in the Muslim world. Despite having sufficient economic resources and strength, the region has been caught in political turmoil due to various conflicts among the major states in the region. The most recent conflict in the region has emerged about the governmental regime in Yemen, which has involved Saudi Arabia, UAE, and the partner countries in armed conflict. The current crisis in the Middle East has great significance regarding Pakistan’s prominence in the Muslim world. It has been observed that despite having largest weapons imports, enough military might, and dominance in the Muslim world, Saudi Arabia and UAE has been very eager for Pakistan’s support in the event of crisis. Although, Pakistan has pledged Saudi Arabia to safeguard its territorial integrity, it has refrained from getting directly involved in the armed activities. The event has not only symbolized Pakistan as the major power of the Muslim world but also espoused up its strategic stature in the regional as well as international politics. The event has embarked upon various strategic opportunities as well as repercussions for Pakistan, which need to be carefully managed in accordance with the national interest. This study evaluates the demands, expectations, and reliance of the Muslim world on Pakistan, Pakistan’s strategic imperatives & policy perspective, and strategic opportunities to emerge as the major power in the world politics. A brief discussion about Pakistan’s role in the management of Muslim world’s affairs has been presented with a recommendation that Pakistan should play its role for reconciliation among the disputant Muslim nations with an offer to ensure mutual peace among the Muslim world.
