Abstract
Maintaining peace and curbing crimes without any discrimination has been the informal need of the all Human beings. This can be judged from the fact that after the completion of the construction of “Ka`aba”, the Prophet Ibrahim (A.S) prayed to Allah for the preservation of peace in the world. Imam Ghazali has prescribed the peace as the main objective of Sharia`h. He says, “the objectives of Sharia in respect of the creatures are, protection of religion, Life, Human Intellectual ability, Honor & Property. The word “peace“refers to the assurance of protection of all these objectives. In order to reduce the crime rate and maintain sustainable peace in the world, the Semetic religions have spelled out two methods. One is to frighten them of the consequent punishment fixed for such crimes in the world hereafter. The other is to implement different punishment for various crimes in this life. The punitive actions fixed for crimes have always been different in different eras and religions. But in the current era, this is proclaimed in different Fora’s that the punitive actions prescribed by Islam are very much severe and the same fall in the violation of human rights. Hence the need has arisen to compare the methods of Islamic punishment with those which are found in Judaism so that the reality behind the said concept may be ascertained. Aforesaid in view, this effort has been made to highlight the executions of punishments in both the religions. Moreover it shall uncover the real picture of allegations regarding the Islamic concept of punishment.
