Abstract

In recent years lots of research work has been done in the field of mass transfer using liquid liquid extraction. Different compounds have been extracted. Isopropyl alcohol is secondary class of alcohol but it has many uses as solvent. Due to its importance as solvent, it is beneficial to extract it from the other solvent or compound so we can use it in different applications. My research work is based on the extraction of isopropanol from toluene using water in agitated cylindrical vessel. The new technology which is implemented in these experiments is the analysis of results using gas chromatography. In this experiment, degree of extraction is not determined by conventional method which is normally used in liquid liquid extraction (titration). Instead of this, each sample is analyzed by gas chromatography apparatus to obtain results in better and improved way. Degree of extraction can be found out by an initial and equilibrium concentration. The basic purpose is to determine the effect of phase ratio and change of RPM of agitator on degree of extraction.
