Abstract
The status of Co-leading in prayers of male and female in Islam is a debatable issue nowadays. Dr. Amina wadoud an American Muslim scholar, famous for having the first feminist approach towards interpretation of the Qur’an (!) is in favour of it. She has quoted a riwayah of Ummi Waraqah (may Allah be pleased with her), a companion of Rasulullah (PBUH) that the Prophet (PBUH) had permitted her to Lead the prayers in her Home. Thus Dr. Amina practically adopted this riwayah and led the prayer of Jumu’ah in New yark. The present paper critically investigates the status of this riwayah and the stance of Dr. Amina based on it.
