Abstract
Islam is the only religion that guides its followers in all domains of life including their workplace behaviour. Recently, organizations expect from their employees to involve in the non-voluntarily behaviour of Organizational Citizenship Behaviour (OCB) which is emphasised in Islamic religion as religious deed and is important for survival of organisation. However, the involvement of Muslim employees in this behaviour depends on their Islamic beliefs and code of conducts that are based on Quran, Sunnah, and Ahadith. Keeping in view the importance of OCB in Islam, there is a lack of studies that have examined the impact of Islamic work ethics and workplace stress on OCB. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to investigate the relationships between Islamic Work Ethics (IWE) and organizational citizenship behaviour. This study also analyses the moderating effect of job stress between IWE and OCB. In order to fulfil the objectives of this research, the study hypothesized a positive relationship between IWE and OCB and hypothesized that job stress moderates the relationship between IWE and OCB. Using quantitative research method, this study data collected from 300 employees working in Islamic and non-Islamic banks operating in Punjab, Pakistan. The data was analysed using SPSS and PLS-SEM. The results indicated a significant positive relationship between IWE and OCB. Moreover, the results confirmed that the positive relationship between IWE and OCB is decreases when the employees face the workplace stress in an organisation. This study also discusses the limitation and suggestion for future research.
