Abstract
Sharaf al-Din Al-Busiri (608-695AH) was born in Egypt in a family of Berber Origin. He studied in Cairo where he specialized in Hadith and Arabic literature, two disciplines that helped him to be the foremost exponent of Muslim religious poetry. Most of his professional life was spent in the two holy cities Makkah and Madinah, where he became a famous teacher of the holy Quran. After his return to Egypt, he established a Quranic school, where he served until his last breath. Al-Busiri was a good poet who compiled his own Diwan an anthology of poems on a wide range of subjects. His best known work however is al-Burdah (Odd of the cloak) which sooner became the most popular religious qaseeda in the Islamic world, a position which it retains even to this day. There has been a rich tradition of writing commentaries upon this “magnum opus” work of literature. The present study aims to examine Mullah Ali Al-Qari’s commentary: al-Zubdah Sharah al-Qaseeda Burdah which is considered one of the best commentaries for al-Burda. It is also tried to study critically style and method of the comment applied by Mulla Ali Qari.
