Abstract
The Abrogation (Naskh) is one of important principles of the Quranic exegesis. The issue of abrogation (replacing one Quranic degree by another Quranic degree) in the Quran is a debatable issue in the field of Quranic hermeneutics and it becomes more controversial when it comes to the point that a Quranic verse can be annulled by the Prophetic tradition. Those who affirm abrogation in Quranic text highlight the wisdom behind it; whereas, those who refute its legality argue that the Quran is the final words of God which is consistent and not subject to change. The present study analyses Imam Jassas’ interpretations of Naskh. Elaborating various dimensions of Naskh, he argues that abrogation in Quranic text is logical. The present study concludes that the controversy over the principle of Naskh is by and large based on the question how to define the very term of Naskh.
