Abstract

The objectives of Islamic Law (Maqasid al-Shari’ah) aims to achieve the greater good by opening or blocking certain means that lead to harm or move people away from it. The law of qisas (retaliation in kind) in Islam is meant to achieve the target of a sustainable peace, to ensure security in the society and to protect innocent souls without which society would not prosper let alone come up with new ideas or contribute to the development of a high level of civilization. This, according to Qur’an can only be done if the law under discussion is implemented in letter and spirit. The present article discusses the sublime role of the law of Qisas in the control of bloodshed in the land.
