Abstract
Orientalism has contested meanings and coonotations even in today's world. For presenting distorted images of Islam in many instances it is still regarded as dangerous and irritated by some. The concocted images and eulogisations of disruptive and blurred vision of Islam by earlier Orientalists and their modern followers, especially of its fundamental sources and personalities are either based on malicious and erroneous quotations or are fabrications. Hadith, the second legislative source of Islamic after the Qur’an came under the special fire of Orientalists when they started its criticsm from the 13th century on to the 19th century. Muslim intelligentsia, however, effectively responded to the accusations and cleared the doubts created about the authenticity of Hadith. In this continuation, the present paper aims to highlight the salients of criticisms of Hadith by some famous Orientalists and investigates the matter in the light of authentic historical sources for the benefit of all.
