Abstract

The research article examines the impact of income inequality on pollution in the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) framework in the perspective of the South Asian Association of Regional Cooperation (SAARC) countries. The data has been gathered from world development indicators and other sources for the period 1995- 2018. The results of Fully Modified Ordinary Least Square Model (FMOLS) indicate the existence of the EKC with a high-income level turning point for CO2 emissions in the SAARC countries. The income inequality has a significant positive impact on pollution. Similarly, literacy rate, political rights & civil liberties that are the proxy of power equalities also has a significant impact on the environment.
