Abstract
This article is a short review and critical assessment of the Arabic voluminous tafsir Mafahim al-Qur’an written by a reputable contemporary Iranian Shi’i scholar, Ja’far al-Sub╒┐ni (born 1347 AH-…). The author is one of those senior leaders who led the Iranian revolution. The style of the work, according to author, is thematic (dirasah mawdu’iyyah), which analyzing various subjects in separate volumes. The present article provides a short biographical sketch of the author along with special focus on critical evaluation of the main points mentioned in the tafsir from a Sunni perspective. The article also discusses methodology adopted in the work.
