Abstract

Ilm Fiqh-ul-Hadith is one of the important disciplines of the Hadith studies. It tells us how to interpret a hadith and how a legal ruling can be derived from the sources of Hadith. It also determines how to inference a verdict from the Hadith texts. Orders and obligatory issues of the religion depend on it. The present article studies Lami al-durari, a multi-voluminous commentary on Sahih Bukhari, penned by an Indian scholar Rasheed Ahmad Gangohi. The present paper is an attempt to evaluate the Lami al-Darari from the prospective of Fiqh alHadith. A number of new interpretations have been identified which were not even mentioned by the predecessors in their books. We also attempted to see its impact on the subsequent literature in the field. Through a comparative study of other leading commentaries of Sahih al-Bukhari, it endeavors to ascertain its intellectual place in the discipline.
